Health and Well Being Strategy Isles Of Scilly

The Health and Well Being Strategy for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly was launched in January 2008, it sets out a long-term vision of how the NHS, local government and community organisations will work together to improve the health of the whole population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The 2020 Health and Well Being Strategy has been produced by members of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Health and Well Being Board. Assessment of 41 consultations with local people and organisations about their concerns, issues and preferences about their health and well being have been amalgamated and their priorities have been incorporated into the strategy.

"This Strategy has been produced in a format which has been designed to be easy to use and understand" said Felicity Owen, Director of Public Health for the Primary Care Trust, Cornwall County Council and the Council of the Isles of Scilly. "Rather than the traditional multi-paged document, the information is being produced on 13 special priority cards and video clips. These contain an example of local work, some facts about the topic, what is currently being done, what needs to be done and how we will know we have made a difference by 2020".

"We have set ourselves some very challenging targets, including eliminating child poverty by 2020 but we feel that meeting such targets is vital if we are to reduce the inequalities affecting some of our most vulnerable people".

If you would like to comment on the strategy or contribute to delivering the targets please contact Karina Wilson.
